The Diamond Dolls

Since 2011, we have been building a strong community through dancing and performing. The Diamond Dolls do not require students to audition in order to be a part of the group as we prioritize access and inclusiveness in our spaces. We mainly celebrate African American vernacular jazz dancing from the swing era and occasionally explore dance styles outside of that time period (disco, 80’s, blues, pop, etc). We emphasize a fun community environment and our goal is to organize virtual and in-person performances depending on the nature of the session. Performing is never a requirement for participation; we value each person’s own preferred style of engagement within the group.

THE DIAMOND DOLLS ARE AN ADULT DANCE GROUP THAT AIMS TO PROVIDE AN INCLUSIVE AND ENCOURAGING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT OPEN TO ALL FEMININE ENERGY FOCUSED INDIVIDUALS INCLUDING CIS AND TRANSGENDER WOMEN, AND MEMBERS OF THE GENDER-NON-BINARY/NON-CONFORMING COMMUNITY. OUR DANCERS ARE ALL AGES, RACE IDENTITIES, BACKGROUNDS, LIFESTYLES, BODY SHAPES, AND SKILL LEVELS. IF YOU ALIGN WITH OUR MISSION AND YOUR HEART TELLS YOU TO DANCE, THEN WELCOME TO OUR PARTY!

We learn, we grow, we thrive.

OUR MISSION

EMPOWERMENT THROUGH DANCE

The vision of the Diamond Dolls is to provide equal opportunity to all skill levels to learn and perform various types of dance in Denver, Colorado.

  • We keep the spirit of traditional dance alive by maintaining a repertoire of African American vernacular jazz as a core curriculum

  • We encourage and provide the necessary support to members to push beyond their own perceived limits

  • We grow individuals as dancers and performers

  • We strive to foster a positive community experience through dance education and renewed cultural and racial inclusivity efforts and best practices

“… I improvised, crazed by the music… Even my teeth and eyes burned with fever. Each time I leaped I seemed to touch the sky and when I regained earth it seemed to be mine alone.

— Josephine Baker, entertainer, activist, and French Resistance agent.
